Chris Armstrong is known for his masterful paintings of the Ocean as organic and enlivened landscapes. Like the sea itself, Armstrong's subtly realistic representations of the ocean vary from elegantly serene to voraciously dynamic. From an early age his father, realist painter David Armstrong, immersed Chris in the American realist tradition. While David Armstrong was painting exquisite representations of rural American landscapes, Chris felt a deep calling to the fathomless expanse of the sea. He maintains a profound connection to the flow from his seaside home in New England. In addition Chris travels extensively drawing inspiration from the global ocean landscape.

Chris attended Bucknell University and spent extensive time studying in Florence Italy. He then went on to receive a Masters of Fine Art from NYU.
